Being Planted and Flourishing
I can’t explain in words how important the local church is to your life and family. It is true that you can go to church anywhere you want to on Sunday morning, but being planted where God called you is entirely different. The bible tells us in Psalms 92:13, “those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God”. God has a plan to prosper his children and that plan is connected to the local church. Why? Because unless you have a Pastor teaching you the uncompromised word of God, then you won’t know what belongs to you in Christ, which will affect what you’re reaching for.
The value you place on the local church will always be evident by the way your life looks. The fact is, you can have a Pastor that feeds you the word but until you make a decision to act on the word nothing will ever change. I remember in my own life, more than 21 years ago now, how it looked when we first visited Church on the rock in Indiana. The word that came forward, although challenging and edifying, seemed to be out of reach for me. You must realize that the devil will try to make you believe that what you’re hearing will never show up in your life and that somehow it’s not obtainable. Let me bring your attention to John 10:10, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
I made a decision that I was not going to be ignorant any longer and I was going to lead my family by the Spirit as best as I knew how. I would listen and apply what was being taught regardless of what others did. The truth is that you must come to a place where you want the word of God to be the final authority in your life. In other words, the word controls the way you make decisions, the way live, raise your children, and conduct your life. We must get to a place of absolute surrender, not leaning on our own intellect or our way of doing things (Proverbs 3:5).
Today so many people undervalue God’s word and put things of lesser importance above him. The bible tells us in Matthew 6:33 “seek ye first the Kingdom of God…”! In every arena of our life God must be first and given the highest priority if we’re going to flourish. As the head of your family let me ask you, what decision will you make? Will you decide to rise up and be men of character; honorable, loyal, and committed to God and his word? As the head of our families we will give an account of the way in which we lead them. Each of us should ask ourselves if we are following in the ways of the Lord. Make the decision to keep your family planted firmly in the house of God being active, and growing in the things of the Spirit. Remember the priorities you set are the priorities your family will follow. I love you and thank God for each of you men.
